The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA is located in the Mountain View Community in the City of San Diego and includes facilities for exercising, meeting spaces, a swimming pool, basketball courts, soccer and baseball fields, a children’s play area, paved and unpaved parking lots, and drive ways. The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA serves a diverse community of over a quarter of a million people in Southeastern San Diego. In 2016, the facility underwent a complete renovation with the demolition of existing facilities and replacement with brand new facilities. The Bodhi Group assisted with the hazardous materials mitigation portion of this renovation.

The Bodhi Group:

  • Completed a Phase II investigation to address potential hazardous materials from aerially-deposited lead (from the adjacent freeway), chlorinated pesticides (former agricultural use), and petroleum hydrocarbons (potential former automobile servicing shop). The Phase II investigation did not find hazardous materials issues that would preclude the renovation project.
  • Oversaw a hazardous building materials survey of asbestos and lead-based paint on the old buildings.
  • Prepared a Property Mitigation Plan.
  • Enrolled the project in the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health Voluntary Assistance Program and obtained regulatory concurrence of no significant hazardous materials issues at the site.
